The Jie Liang Scientific Excellence Memorial Fund
This fund is to honor the memory of Professor Jie Liang and his 25 years dedicated to the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Jie was the Richard and Loan Hill Distinguished Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the Director of the Center for Bioinformatics and Quantitative Biology, University Distinguished Professor at University of Illinois of Chicago (UIC) as well as a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. He pioneered the formation of the Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Bioinformatics at UIC, one of the earliest such programs in the nation, which received IBHE approval in 2003.
Jie was an invaluable educator and mentor, devoted to the advancement of science and improving the human condition. Jie dedicated his life to research in the organizing principles of biological phenomena, to designing and engineering methods and systems for detecting important biological signals, and enhancing desired biological functions.
